Hampshire County Council Leader, Cllr Nick Adams-King hosts public meeting with Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones and Leader of Havant Borough Council, Cllr Gwen Robinson

Leader of Hampshire County Council continued on his county-wide tour of public meetings to give open insight into the devolution process that the government has set in motion.

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight have been fast-tracked to become through the devolution process, which will see new local government unitary authorities replace the county and borough model that currently exists and will be streamlined through an elected mayor for the county.

Cllr Nick Adams-King spoke at length for an hour on the current proposals, government white paper publishing schedule and concerns and aspirations both at county level and also city and borough level and the need to ensure that the unique characteristics and community aspects are respected and preserved. And that reorganisation of local government, which is complex, must work for the communities and the people that are affected.

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones also spoke at length on crime and policing and how she’s delivering on her priorities and delivering safer communities. She’s re-opened police station front-counters, recruited near to 1000 new officers, put Beat Bobbie’s back into the community and tackling issues that affect urban areas, rural communities and businesses etc.
